I know that many people post on their blog and Facebook during the month of November about thankfulness, so I know I am not being original, but I would like to challenge myself to post on my blog every single day this month and somewhere in each post, share my thankfulness.
I won’t just share what I am thankful for, but why. It’s easy to be thankful, but I really want to reflect on the blessings from God (both expected and unexpected).
So, here we go!
Today, on this November 1st, which is All Saints’ Day, I am thankful for all the saints that have gone before us, specifically my grandfather, who passed away 12 years ago tomorrow.
It’s hard for me to express in words the impact my grandfather had on both my life and faith, but I do wish he could have been here to see where I am today.
The hymn, “For All the Saints” has special meaning to me because of the time of his death and still makes me tear up each year when we celebrate in worship.
I will share you some of my favorite verses below:
1. For all the saints, who from their labours rest,Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed.Alleluia, Alleluia!2. Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress and their Might;Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well fought fight;Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light.Alleluia, Alleluia!10. But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day;The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way.Alleluia, Alleluia!11. From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast,Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,And singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost:Alleluia, Alleluia!
Please take a moment to remember all your dearly loved ones who are no longer with here on earth, but surely celebrating our LORD in heaven!
