    witness

Miss Indiana, Katie Stam won the Miss America pageant last night. I did not see the show, only heard it, but what a witness she portrayed in her character, presentation and humbleness. Check out her talent portion of the competition: A powerful witness to what’s really important about our walk with God. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZYX50WhxCo&feature=channel

    epiphany

I don’t believe in coincidences…only in God’s love and care in my life. In this season of Epiphany…I am having epiphanies of my own. I know what Epiphany means in the church, but I was curious about the dictionary definition. According to merriamwebster.com, this is one of many: “…an intuitive grasp of reality through something (as an event) usually simple and striking: an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure.” More thoughts to come…

    free spirit

I never considered myself a free spirit, but maybe I am more than I thought. Sometimes I just want to travel and write. No schedule, no commitments, just going where I want; visiting family, friends, and seeing the world. I suppose I can do that now, but it’s harder when you have responsibilities. I wish I could challenge myself to sell what I have and follow Christ. Serve wherever he wants me to. But maybe that is what I am doing now, what I am supposed to be doing now. It’s God’s plan not mine, and I know He will give me the best. I just have to be patient…

    abandonment

I received an interesting article in my latest weekly CPYU email update that I received today. It’s about why students leave the faith after high school, but it high lights a passage written by William Wilberforce over 200 years ago. I just think it’s incredible that in 200+ years, it hasn’t changed. Young people were leaving the church back then for the same reasons they are now. So, we still don’t know what to do about it? Why is it so puzzling? Why is it so hard to change? Here’s the link:http://www.cpyu.org/Page.aspx?id=361896

    friends

I never thought it would be this hard to transition from college friends to real world friends. But I am a firm believer that college does not prepare you socially for the real world…Do you agree? Although, I have many friends that have established their own group on their own…why can’t I? I know it takes time, but after a year and a half on my own I am ready for some good friends that I can be myself around. Why is it so hard? I know that God knows what he is doing in my life, but sometimes its hard to deal with the variables.

    i remember…

I remember The sun shining down On his bronzed and dirty face He worked in his garden Caring for God’s creation I remember A warm breeze lightly ran across my skin I watched him intently He looked tired But he never wavered in his steps I remember Feeling so free and relaxed Forgetting insignificant details That plagued my life They didn’t seem to matter I remember He bought us his favorite candy That catchy television ad played in my head “Gimme a break, gimme a break” As he broke off a piece for each of us I remember He complained It was too hot, or the mosquitoes were a bother…

    economic crisis

This article is written for college students, but I think it provides some good tips and Scriptural references to remind us that God provides what we need when we need it, even in the midst of uncertainty. http://www.trueu.org/dorms/stulounge/A000000961.cfm
