    Be Kind

It’s the first day of November! It is my birthday month, but I still think this would be one of my favorite months even if I didn’t happen to be born the day before Thanksgiving a few decades ago. After Halloween (or even before), many people jump immediately to decorating and listening to music for the Christmas season. But I think there is purpose in the season of celebrating the many blessings of this earthly life. I like the pause, to breathe and be thankful before the holiday season begins. As an adult, gifts aren’t really the focus of birthday celebrations for me. The reality of adulthood is we can…

30 Days of Thanks -Day 26

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! “It is better to take refuge in the Lord     than to trust in humans. 9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord     than to trust in princes. 10 All the nations surrounded me,     but in the name of the Lord I cut them down. 11 They surrounded me on every side,     but in the name of the Lord I cut them down. 12 They swarmed around me like bees,     but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;     in the name of the Lord I cut them down. 13 I was pushed back and about to fall,     but the Lord helped me. 14 The Lord is my strength and my defense[a];…

    30 Days of Thanks – Day 24

I missed a few days again, but I am thankful for all the birthday love I received this past weekend! I also have so many ideas for future posts that I have been working on! Today’s passage: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.” – James 1:17-18

    30 Days of Thanks – Day 20

“I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. This will please the Lord more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves. The poor will see and be glad – you who seek God, may your hearts live! The Lord hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.” – Psalm…

    30 Days of Thanks – Day 19

“Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy and with my song I praise him. The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.” – Psalm 28:6-9

    30 Days of Thanks – Day 7

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say this – those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he  delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his…

    30 Days of Thanks – Day 6

“Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you n the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work…” Thank you Lord for those fellow servants in the ministry. For we know that working for you and your people brings both seasons of joy and seasons of hardship. I thank you, Father for each and every individual, both those I know and those I don’t know who gladly serve you. “Live in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be…

    30 Days of Thanks – Day 5

“Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues on put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as your teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your…

    30 Days of Thanks – Day 4

“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. In that day you will say: ‘Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. Should aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.'” – Isaiah 12:2 – 6…
