    “Be Transformed…” an update

When I first wrote about my focus for 2018, I wasn’t ready for it. But that is why God provided the opportunity for me to “Be Transformed…” As a creature of habit, personal change is pretty difficult for me, so I love how God tailored the opportunity to grow in this way for me this year. My Focus for 2018 As we approach the halfway point of this year, I want to share with all of you an update. How is 2018 going for me? What have I learned so far? What am I looking forward to? How am I still struggling and what steps am I taking to work…

    I wasn’t ready for 2018

When the clock struck midnight on a new day and a new year I thought I was ready. 2017 had been a hard year for me, for us. In fact, I knew many people who were glad it was over. But the thing about time, is that it doesn’t stop. There’s no chance to recover. There’s no chance to pause and take a breath. And when Jan 1, 2018 hit, I wanted to be ready, but I wasn’t. I had picked a theme phrase and Bible passage and I was looking forward. I was waiting for a trip to NYC and the opportunity to attend a conference to start my year. While…

    Why I write

I am participating in a 7-day blogging challenge and Day #1 is to share my manifesto, as in, “Why I write”. Eight years ago, I wrote this in my first ever blog post: “Perhaps I am being a follower, but reading other people’s blogs has inspired me to create my own. I like to write, and I think I need a space where I can do it openly and freely. I won’t mind if no one reads this…I would rather just have a place of my own. This is not for my glory, only for God’s.” Today this is still true. The title of my blog, Unexpected Blessings, also shares my…

    Update

Hey Friends! Well, now I am self-hosting my blog through Word Press (thanks to my husband)! Fancy, right? I feel like I have progressed another level up in the blogging world. I’ve updated the link on my Facebook page, but make sure if you read my blog any other way, you have this address listed: http://blog.emilyphoenix.com/ It will be awhile before I delete my old blog, but I wanted to give out the new address and make sure you are checking it!  I am still trying to figure out some of the features I want to add, but the major pieces are in place! Look forward to continuing to share…

    Same blog, new look!

I may have changed platforms, but it’s still the same blog! I needed a new look and an updated base, so that I could do more! I am excited for what my blog will bring in 2014! With a new look to the blog, I wanted to dive deeper into how the title has grown richer for me since I began this blog almost two years. You can see the original post in reference to the title, here. But as I thought about why I describe the blessings in my life as ‘unexpected’,  I was reminded of the Parable of the Sower.  You may be familiar with the text, but I’ve…

    Writer’s Bucket List

I came across this article and was intrigued by this bucket list. Here are my ideas/thoughts for the 5 things talked about in the article: 1. “Do something bizarre just to write about it.” I have an adventurous spirit, and so does the person I married, so I actually think this was won’t be too difficult to make happen.I love to write about life, whether it’s the every day observations or the once-in-a-life-time moments. I look forward to trying this one! 2. “Self-publish Something.” I’ve had the desire to complete this one for quite a few years. And it’s on my 2013 goals list. I did find a writing contest…

    2013 Top Ten Goals

I thought this was a neat idea/writing prompt to start off the year. Since I started the blog off with the photo challenge, I am posting it now! Feb is not too late to set some goals! In fact, it doesn’t have to be a new year to set goals at all! Make a New Year’s resolution list that includes 10 goals. They don’t all have to be writing-related, but at least 3 of them do. Then refer to this post often this year and update it as you complete your goals. 1. Seriously pursue the publication of my devotion book (Finish edits, send to professional editor and save $$…

    It’s Coming!

It’s coming! No, I don’t mean the end of the world. December 21 came and went and all we got was a bunch of snow! But, we are just a few days from a new year, 2013! I needed a break from the blog after some heavy events in the news and the busyness of the Christmas season. But, I have had several days of rest and relaxation. I have celebrated the birth of our Savior. I have spent quality time with family and friends and had a lot of good laughs. I’m ready. And as we approach the new year, I am committed to a photo challenge in January.…
