    Unexpected Blessing of the Week

Today, the unexpected blessing which I experienced was the pouring rain. It’s amazing to me how one day the rain can depress me and the next, it’s a wonderful thing! With the rough and snowy winter we have had, it was refreshing to receive rain, even if it was impairing my vision on the road. The rain was a representation of warmer weather to come and hope that the season of spring will come soon!

    Too much

Sometimes I just want to quit Facebook. It’s too much. I know some people who aren’t on it at all. I know some people who come and go for various reasons. I know many people who are on there 24/7. I can’t decide which group I want to be a part of. Sometimes I think there is danger in the time spent on it because I don’t want to overwatch other people’s lives happen, I want to experience my own. I don’t want to vicariously live through other people. I have a life that is worth something too. I certainly have plenty going on and I like to share it…

    Build Your Kingdom Here

I went  to an event on Saturday that brought much encouragement. Being connected to the church both personally and professionally can often be a challenge because you are seeing it from the perspective of both serving and being served. We sang this song. I listed the lyrics below.  The song is still stirring in my soul and I hope to be able to share more thoughts in future posts! Come set Your rule and reign in our hearts again. Increase in us we pray. Unveil why we’re made. Come set our hearts ablaze with hope like wildfire in our very souls. Holy Spirit, come…

    Drugs are not OK

I thought long and hard about what to say in this post. If it simply starts (or continues) a conversation for those who read it, then I have expressed what I have wanted to. I know it continues a conversation that I hold dear to myself because of my thoughts on human life and the people I know who have struggled with addiction.   I have seen one too many celebrity deaths related to drugs in the recent past. It’s sad, it’s tragic, but it was also something that happened because he/she wasn’t taking care of himself/herself. I only understand addiction as explained to me by others and I don’t…

    UB of the Week

There were definitely a few unexpected blessings to share this week! When I was leading preschool chapel on Wednesday, a FOUR year old shared with me that her teenage brother and sister didn’t know Jesus. We talked about sharing stories about Jesus and praying for those we know who don’t know him. It was difficult, but also amazing to realize that she recognized this and my prayer is that the faith she has as a child, will be a witness to them. Yesterday, I attended an event which was the opportunity to encourage and connect women in sharing Jesus and serving the Lord. I will post a video with a…

    UB of the Week

Meant to post this earlier this week, but it’s been a pretty busy week! My unexpected blessing for the week came on the first day, Sunday. I was teaching a junior high Sunday school class and I never know what to expect with that group. Usually, they pleasantly surprise me and this time was no different. We were studying one topic, but as you may know, this is an age group that asks lots of questions, which I love (even when I have to tell the I don’t know). We got on a roll with several questions and were turning the pages in the Bible back and forth to find…

    Same blog, new look!

I may have changed platforms, but it’s still the same blog! I needed a new look and an updated base, so that I could do more! I am excited for what my blog will bring in 2014! With a new look to the blog, I wanted to dive deeper into how the title has grown richer for me since I began this blog almost two years. You can see the original post in reference to the title, here. But as I thought about why I describe the blessings in my life as ‘unexpected’,  I was reminded of the Parable of the Sower.  You may be familiar with the text, but I’ve…

  • One Word,  unexpected blessings

I don’t usually jump on the trend bandwagon, but I really like the idea of choosing a word to focus on in the new year. 2012 was a year of obvious transition. Marriage, move across the country, new job. Many changes happened.  The change happened and I went with the flow, but I didn’t really have time to process it. 2013 was an in-between year for me because I was processing much of the change from the previous year. It doesn’t mean it was average because it was certainly a year of great fun and adventure. But, overall, it was a year where I thought a lot about where I…

New goals in a new year

I haven’t done this on my blog, but I have thought of some goals for myself in the new year and I want to put them down in writing and keep myself accountable. We’ve all made resolutions and broke them, so if that happens, it’s not the end of the world, but isn’t it always good to strive for something? I could do this anytime of the year, but I like the idea of dedicating a specific few days to setting up the next year of life. I looked over a post I had written about life goals and you can check out an update here. Only really a couple…

  • Faith & Life,  unexpected blessings

I wrote this post two and half weeks ago. Since then I have been praying about/contemplating whether to post it or not. While this post makes me vulnerable and reveals part of who I am to you, writing is a form of expression that is far more powerful than a simple status update. For those who know me and will read this, I hope you won’t try to fill in the details. I wrote in a way that doesn’t call anyone out or name anyone specifically because I care for those who were involved. This was the only way I knew how to share what I was going through. This…
