    Music Series

I am contemplating a blog series about music and how it speaks to me. I love worship music, but I am not going to limit it to that. Not all music has a good message, but I am also not going to say that good messages are limited to Christian music.  I think we can be inspired by all types of music. I am certainly not a music buff, but I love learning from friends and family about what they love and why they love it. I have definitely come to have a better appreciation about all types of music because I’ve kept my mind open and been able to…

    Unexpected Blessing of Today

It’s been awhile since I have posted one of these and it happened this morning and I had to share! After a full weekend, (where the majority was spent in the car), but a very fun time with friends and family…we had to drive through the night to get home. I was driving in the very early morning and had not slept in 24 hours, but yet, the sun rising and the view of the mountains in Western Maryland provided a sense of peace. The sun had risen another morning and I was alive and well! What a blessing, even with the lack of sleep!

    Stuck

Lately, I have been feeling stuck. I’ve been coming down from a huge high of participating in a event that has consumed my time and energy for the last few years. I came to the realization that our current city is only temporary for us. My summer hasn’t felt much like summer because work had kept me very busy. And, I am still trying to make friends in a new place. Now what? Last time I felt stuck like this, it was time to set some goals for myself. And, I think it’s that time again. A few years after I left college, I finally got caught up in all…

    What Inspires Me? (June edition)

Oh my goodness it’s almost June! Summer is here and my life isn’t any less busy! Oh well, just going to keep chugging along and enjoy every minute! Here’s what has brought me inspiration, how about you? Most Inspiring:Came across this video on a friend’s Facebook page. Wow. It’s 22 minutes, but absolutely worth taking a break from whatever you are doing & watching. What an amazing person and story. He had a dream and he pursued it. I only hope that I could remain this positive in the midst of a difficult situation. It was real and everything wasn’t perfect, but everyone was authentic. Most Relevant:Alise-Write is a blogger…

    UB of the week

It’s been almost two weeks since I posted and I have no idea where the time went! I have a few unexpected blessings and it’s important for me to write it down, because so often we can remember the negative, but I want to remember the positive, even if the event started out negative. First, the positive one: A student in a Bible class that I taught for 10 weeks, shared some encouraging feedback and eagerness to learn more. That’s so great to hear! Second, after a difficult situation that was communicated via email, things were resolved and I learned even more about myself and about others. Relationships are so…

    What Inspires Me? (May Edition)

April was quite a month.  As a life long runner, the events of April 15 didn’t scare me away from what I love to do, it only gave me resolve to keep going. And there are so many other inspiring stories that are pushing me into May! Inspiring:NPR presents an story from a runner that I can relate to. Runners Dig in Their Heels: ‘We Can Endure Alot’. Those words are oh so very true. This post from Rage Against the Minivan, titled, What You Can Do, gives a real picture of a global problem, orphans, and provides ways that anyone can help. I love posts like this, which are real…

    Blink of an Eye

I found out yesterday that a colleague died suddenly. I knew him well enough and had just seen him a few months back. When someone dies, I always think about the last conversation I had and if I would have said anything different. In this case I remember hearing about the joy of being a grandfather and being encouraged in life and ministry with words of wisdom from a faithful servant. I didn’t know him all that well or him, me but everyone he talked to was a friend and he had a way with words and a caring heart. This song kept popping into my head as my day…

    UB of the Week

I received the opportunity to participate in a project that shares the stories, provides encouragement and  builds up a special group of people. I am very excited to hear more about how I can use my gifts to share in this project! Sharing stories is something I love to do, because it provides inspiration, helps others to learn something new, and provides community and unity among a topic, event or group of people.

When TV becomes too real to watch…

Have you ever watched something on TV that just stayed with you? I’ve seen scary things that have kept me up an extra half hour so I could watch something upbeat before bedtime. I’ve watched the tear jerkers that made for a good cry. I’ve watched shows that have changed my perspective. TV and film have a powerful effect on us. Yes, it’s entertainment, but if you are watching the best there is to offer, the impact offers so much more. We started watching House of Cards this past week and have gotten hooked. I promise not to give anything a way, but what I saw in one particular episode…

    Competition

If you know me, you know I love competition. My competitive spirit is at it’s height in various situations including: Watching my favorite football team play Playing board/card game Running in a race or training towards a goal I am about to enter into a new kind of competition. It’s one that scares me a bit because it will test how I take critiscism. It will expose a form of expression that is very near and dear to me. But it’s an important step to take if I want to keep moving forward with my dream. It’s a writing competition.   I got an email several months ago, and I…
