Here I am Lord

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” – Isaiah 6:8

This passage from Isaiah has been resonating with in various aspects of my life for the last few months. It was part of a devotional on the local mission trip we attended in April and then we used the song, “Here I am, Lord” as we presented about our experience.  The song came up again in early July while I was vacationing with my family. I even saw, “Here I am, send me.” tattooed on someone’s arm.

It’s been a reminder that God is always calling us. Whether it is a call to stay and serve right where we are at, a call to change a habit or a call to go, most likely to a place of discomfort, in order to serve and glorify Him. Every single day, we are being called to share Jesus with those around us. We are called to have the attitude of Jesus and be His hands and feet in a broken, chaotic world.

The promise He gives us when He calls us to go, is that He will be with us.

“I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.”
