I shared the beginning of this passage in my very first post, as I discussed Jesus always being with the Father and present at creation. But I share a verse further in the passage to go deeper into who Jesus is as The Word:
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” – John 1:14
The Word = Jesus. Not only did God come to us in human form, but the words of Scripture did, too. The Gospel message, which was breathed out by God; the message of love and salvation that had been prophecied and preached by those who came before Him. God mercy, grace and forgiveness came in the birth of a baby boy. He grew into a man who lived among God’s people and was the Word that everyone listened to and learned from in his days on earth. What a magnificent gift!
God’s Word is full of grace and truth because Jesus is the Word. Jesus is our grace in the act of sacrifice for our sins. Jesus is our truth, for he is the only way to the Father. Jesus is the Word that brings us life eternal.
