As mentioned in yesterday’s post, I am at a conference. As a church professional, I serve in a large geographical area, which covers several states. Because of this, we only gather as a district every 3 years.
As the event began, with each interaction with friends and new connections, I felt hopeful.
Often, these type of events remind me that I am not alone, in a serving profession that can often be draining and isolating. We have a connection through our calling to serve God and lead people to follow Jesus.
We worshipped together at a local church and it brought tears to my eyes as we sang hymns together, heard God’s Word and communed. These types of worship experiences are often so refreshing because we can truly rest.
The sermon talked about “one little word”, and caused us to think about what that was for us in our lives. What “one little word” do you need to hear right now?
Much of our time together this week is a celebration of our Lutheran heritage, most importantly our belief in Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone and Christ alone. This hymn verse was shared as a powerful reminder that Christ has won the victory for us. There’s so much hope in that Gospel message!
“A Mighty Fortress is Our God” – verse 3
Though devils all the world should fill,
All eager to devour us.
We tremble not, we fear no ill,
They shall not overpower us.
This world’s prince may still
Scowl fierce as he will,
He can harm us none,
He’s judged; the deed is done;
One little word can fell him.
What little word do we need right now?
