If I am going to be a blogger, I guess I have to take the leap. I need to stop making excuses for not doing it. I love to write, that should be enough. But, yet I read all of these wonderful bloggers and am extremely intimidated. Some plan, some don’t, but they all do it and that is the difference between me and them. What do I fear? The perfectionist in me wants everything planned out and perfect, but the adventurous side of me just wants it to come out and be great everyday. Neither of those are realistic, so I hope I can find a happy medium. Whoever…

Perspectives on Life & Love Carnival: Unexpected

I just discovered Modern Mrs. Darcy today and was inspired to join her carnival blog with my own story of love.    Everything about how we met and our relationship was unexpected, in the best way possible. We met on a church mission trip.  Here’s the kicker: one of was Christian, one of us was not. Encountering people of various beliefs on a regular basis is not too unusual, but the dynamic of the group on this trip was Christian teenagers and adults volunteering to serve the local community.   In our first conversation, he bared his soul about himself, his unbelief and how he was transitioning between two careers. His…

    need to celebrate

On a day where we celebrate our country’s independence, my thoughts are scattered. I am so proud to be part of this country, and take pride in who we are. But we are also so young, and could learn so much from those countries who have been around for thousands of years. My prayer is that we will continue, knowing that we are free, but also can learn from others. It’s another day and another opportunity to help others. It’s definitely a day to celebrate, but I also think about those who may be hurting and have other things on their mind. It’s days like today that I am especially…

    Instead of 30 before 30…

Everywhere I see these lists that bloggers have made of 30 things to do before turning 30.  They have always inspired me, but I often think, “Well what happens once I turn 30?”  I want to set goals in life, but I don’t want them to end.  Setting milestones along the way is important, but I want my list to be something I can keep adding to, even beyond the age of 30. Recently, my husband shared with me a paper weight with a quote on it, which was given to him long ago. It says, “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”  It’s…

    Joy in the storm

How do I find joy in the storm? Thunderstorms are loud and dark and disruptive. I have a storm raging in my life right now. I love watching storms, but only the ones I am not engulfed in. It’s easy and safe to watch from inside the house or on the porch. But what about if we are in the storm? Where is the joy? I think the joy comes from knowing that the storm will come to an end. Remember when Jesus calmed the storm? I know that he is present in the storm with me, and that helps.

    Humbled in love

I have discovered that falling in love is a very humbling experience. Not only are you developing strong feelings for this other person, but you are also getting to a point of vulnerability that I didn’t even know that existed. It’s not easy to be honest and communicate with the person that you love, but it’s the most important, challenging and freeing experience. I think about this in my relationship with God as well. Here is someone who loves us unconditional, through all our joyfulness and ugliness. It’s so very humbling to be loved in such an indescribable way!

I love the poetry of Emily Dickinson. I know her life could be looked at as lonely and isolated, but the words that she wrote resonate through all generations and sit here with me today. Read poem here As a Christ follower, my hope is eternal and found in my LORD and Savior. The hope I have in him will never falter, even when I do.

Recently I have been dealing with a difficult decision. God is teaching me what it means to TRULY rely on him. This passage comes to mind: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” – Proverbs 3:5
