Songs of Christmas: Unto Us

I discovered this song on Spotify and enjoyed listening to it this season:

I’ve added Bible verses that I connect with these lyrics below:

The world was covered by the night
longing for the light
lost in sin and shame

“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.” – John 1:4-5

When God from heavens throne on high
heard our desperate cry
and sent his Son to save

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” – 1 John 4:9

Oh lift your eyes to see this wonder
with the angels sing

“Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: 29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised you may now dismiss[d] your servant in peace. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31  which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.” – Luke 2:28 – 32

Hope has come unto us, unto us
Love is born we rejoice, we rejoice
Light of our salvation breaking through the night
unto us

“Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” – Philippians 2:6-8

Redemption’s song is playing loud
hear the joyful sound
of heaven’s melody

“But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” – Isaiah 43:1

A savior for the weary soul
makes the broken whole
and sets the captive free

“He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” – Isaiah 40:28b-29

Oh lift your eyes to see this wonder
with the angels sing, yea

Hope has come not us, unto us
Love is born we rejoice, we rejoice
Light of our salvation breaking through the night
unto us

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6

All glory, glory in the highest
Our Emmanuel is with us
Jesus, Jesus king forever
earth and heaven sing together

13 “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” – Luke 2:13-14

Hope has come unto us, unto us
Love is born we rejoice, we rejoice
Light of our salvation breaking through the night
unto us

Born to us

Words like Hope, Love and Light to describe Jesus remind me that this season is a time to celebrate and be thankful. We rush around, spending more money than we should, feeling exhausted by the end of the year, yet none of that is necessary!
May the words and music of this Christmas song remind you that you are wrapped in God’s love through Jesus Christ!
