Hopefully you all have a day off. For the majority of people it’s the weekend. But it varies depending on your work and life rhythm. For me, I take Sabbath rest on Fridays.
I try not to make it a day of running errands and completing my to do list because it’s Sabbath. We live in a world where it’s difficult to stop, take a break and rest. Even God rested after he created the world, which is way more than I will ever get done in my lifetime.
“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” – Genesis 2:2-3
The challenge for me is resting without feeling guilty because I think I should be doing something else. The reality is that we can’t function well on the other 5-6 days of the week if we don’t rest and take time away from the work that will always have to be done in whatever field we serve.
So yesterday, I was able to truly rest without guilt or anxiousness. I had a leisurely morning, wore comfy clothes all day, checked out a new coffee shop with my husband where I was able to sit and read without distraction. And, we had a quiet night indoors, watching reruns of our favorite shows. These was joy in resting and for that I am thankful as I start a busy weekend!
