Why I write

I am participating in a 7-day blogging challenge and Day #1 is to share my manifesto, as in, “Why I write”.

Eight years ago, I wrote this in my first ever blog post:

“Perhaps I am being a follower, but reading other people’s blogs has inspired me to create my own. I like to write, and I think I need a space where I can do it openly and freely. I won’t mind if no one reads this…I would rather just have a place of my own. This is not for my glory, only for God’s.”

Today this is still true.

The title of my blog, Unexpected Blessings, also shares my “Why?” Four years ago, I was given a direction for my writing.

“In the last year or so of my life, a lot of unexpected events have splashed in front of me. The word, ‘unexpected’ to me means unplanned and spontaneous.  We never know what life will throw at us, but if we look at it through the lens God provides, we can take it on, enjoy it or conquer it. Even some of the more difficult and unexpected events have brought joy and blessing to my life.  As I continue on this journey, which God blesses everyday, I want to embrace the unexpected and look for how He uses me for His purpose.”

I am the type of writer that thrives on sharing my reflection on life experiences and hoping that others can relate and reflect on their own lives in a similar manner. The most impactful expression of how I feel comes as I sit in the moment with only the sound of my fingers typing to soothe and quiet my mind. I write to share life and reflect the gift of faith I have been given. My hope is that as others come across and read my blog, that they will feel inspired to find the expression in their own lives that makes a positive impact on the world.
